How can you prevent your cat from scratching the furniture?
My cat scratches the furniture, every time ive tried to obtain a Scratching Post and I even sprayed it with catnip, but it doesent seem to help
Seana As already mentioned, the cats their likes and dislikes just like humans. Some textures seem to be more comfortable for them than others. Also the height of the scratching post may be a factor. When I train for replacement cats, I usually use flattened cardboard boxes or a couple slab rubber linked together (like those you see often with the alphabet on it). They are inexpensive and can be placed in rooms different so that when the cat is envy, there is always at hand. Your cat seems to require retraining before letting it run throughout the house. Put it in a small room with his little pot, scratching post or pads, food, water and toys. The bathroom function properly. Leave it for a day. Be sure to visit him often and praise him if he is doing the right things. If it does not show (the cats do not understand gestures.) Once it has demonstrated good behavior in the bathroom you can give him more space, for example the kitchen. Again, give much attention and congratulations when he scratches on his post. At the same time, get a cleaning furniture with a strong odor and Polish all furniture he has touched. I would keep it in the kitchen for a couple of days. When he seems comfortable with his carpet-zero, then you can leave it in the other rooms. As I mentioned before, make sure you have these blocks in each room. It may seem a little messy, but worth it. If the cat reached for furniture, catch it and put it immediately on the pavement and mimic scratches. He will get the point. I also suggest obtaining an ordinary nail clippers cutting off the pointed end of his claws about every ten days. If you need help, ask the vet to do so. Good luck. Please do not declaw, as some have suggested because it is like amputating fingers at the first knuckle.
